Our Very Own Landscaping Job

It's been a promise I have to keep, I plurked about this landscaping job, and some friends wanted me to post it. So here it is, I will now share with you what I and hubby have busied ourselves with, over the start of summer.

After the long months of doing extra work with school souvenir programs, we gave ourselves one project that we must complete before all our earnings fail to give us evidence that we worked. So that holy week, when most people were on the beach and enjoying the waters, we were enjoying the dust and the grass. We were doing our very own landscaping job.

Before pic - tall grasses surrounding the house

On our area are grasses tall and standing proud. We are both busy with our day jobs that even during the weekends, we couldn't find time to arrange things as we busy ourselves with laundry, ironing and cleaning inside the house. But after much deliberation as to how we can clean the lawn and how we cam improve the landscaping, we came up with using bricks and carabao grass.

So the grasses were pulled, land area was leveled by the husband, he made sure that the earth was screened before it was placed back so that the roots of this annoying "morning grass" would not root up again. We were really busy and to think, the two of us were the only ones who did everything, with the exception of arranging the brick. We got one person to help us with the laying of the bricks because we simply cannot do it by ourselves. So we were three, and we succeeded in making this. This is our garage. You see, we still have more space, kids and I can just lay down the rubber pool and voila!

Now pic - with plants, the carabao grass and arranged bricks

A few weeks back, we also made attempts at planting carabao grass here, and lookey, they're already scattered, but after a short time, the annoying weeds were up and bouncing, we decided on trimming them than wasting time having to pull them again, as they are really that annoying. Hubby even searched for what could kill these weeds without harming our cultured grass, but to no avail.

We also bought a driftwood table and bench which we placed in the lawn, and we made some pathways too. Now here's my plants. You see, I'm a sucker for plants, I love them and I could plant anything for as long as I have space for them. I even have atis at the back area where we do the laundry.

Doing this our way is a tiring job, we knew that, but it was a very rewarding job. We were able to realize how hard labor jobs are, and how tiring the job of a gardener may be, but we looked at the bright side of it, and yes, we valued time and money more. We may have scratched and bruised our skin with what we did, but we were rewarded with a beautiful landscape we personally did.

Today, as there are still brownouts in our place, we have dinners in the lawn or afternoon snacks, and we enjoy every delightful hours we are spending with the kids. During weekend mornings, what joy we have when we sip our hot coffee in our front lawn, with the cold breeze of morning air.

We are not rich, so we settle with simple joys that make us happy.

You just gave me an idea what to do with my own small patio. Carabao grass looks just fine if you trim it. At hinde pihikan katulad ng bermuda grass.

why is it that we filipinos call car port as garage? The way I see this parking space - - I can tell that this is Car Port. Per Wiki, Carport, a is residential vehicles storage that is open on at least two sides...

Funny Filipinos - yes we are.
