Corruption Starts in Small Ways

An officemate was trying to rebook her ticket to a different schedule, and using the office phone, called long distance to Manila to try re-booking her flight details.

More than thirty minutes had gone by and she was still on the phone, arranging her flight details. Without a brake, I called her attention and said:

Me: Reminder lang po, office phone po yan and you are calling long distance for a personal call.

She just sheepishly smiled at me. I do not know if I embarrassed her by doing that but I believe I did the right thing. I could understand if it was something with urgency, but I didn't think it was. I feel bad because I had to call her attention, the fact that she's stayed longer with the department more than I did. But still, I think I did the right thing.

Corruption in the government starts with little things such as a simple phone call.

That's a gutrsy move! More power to your crusade vs corruption. Kaya lang para kang nagtutulak ng alon palayo sa pasigan.

you did the right thing. kung sa private sector nga pinapansin natin yun e, lalo na sa government.

@BertN: She wasn't one with a higher position so I don't think I pushed the waves away.

@Eks: Tama. Minsan kailangan nating itama ang ating pagkakamali even though how hard it must be. I do not have a clean conscience, but sometimes, kung sobra na, bawasan naman, minimize your greed ika nga. Kung 5-10 mins. lang sana yun, I would've kept my mouth shut.

keep up the crusade sheng...whether private or she has higher office than you are. Corruption is corruption whatever the face is, so we should deal with it squarely as soon as possible...

How about bringing office stuff like bond paper, paste and eraser home?

How about cutting line on a queue?

How about parking on a space reserved for the handicap?

Way to go, sheng. Yan ang sinasabing "tuwid na landas".

you did the right thing, i believe. you're right anything starts small. if we can get away with the small things, we become bolder to try new things.
