Of Achievements and Recognitions

Image
Their Recognition Day was set on May 24. I wasn’t there even if parents were supposed to be present. I was attending a Supervisory Training for 5 days in Koronadal City where, had she called for me, I would have immediately came.   She didn’t call me to join her, so I thought it was just fine. I understand that recognitions in Pisay are hard to achieve. Their standards are quite high. So I settled with the fact that she didn’t get to the cut.   Then on May 30, the teacher sent a SMS and e xplained how she made this huge mistake of not sending my daughter on the stage for her winning moment on the fourth recognition day. Turned out that she submitted a wrong file to the awards committee hence missing out my daughter’s name. She was very apologetic.  I called my husband after having received the message and both of us were in unison of thoughts that we shall dismiss that part on the neglect of the teacher to submit the name of our daughter to the award...

Inherited Genetic Traits? Where From?

First Honors: Raine Cassandra D. Dumalay Word Smart Number Smart Body Smart Nature Smart I am not surprised that she'll get the First Honors because I believe in her wits and her capability, but I also did not expect too much for there are still many others who have tried their very best in reaching the top. I was surprised when the teacher sent me a message informing me that the daughter is First Honors and that I have to make her Valedictory speech. I couldn't be any prouder. The jubilation I felt cannot be equaled, and I felt that even with the time I gave them, or the lack of it, my children still managed to be good in their studies. She got 5 medals, but the first in this post is my favorite of all. Good thing we were accompanied by the granny and the kuya who also went up the stage to place the medal on her. The kuya also got very good grades, however, because of the strict imposition of the school that students must reach an average of 91 before they are given recogniti...

Hearts

Image
The pictures may seem a bit blurry but this is what the daughter handed me when I arrived home today. She's just the sweetest girl, and even if she sometimes has this maldita attitude that I do not like, I still love her because she's my daughter, and she can be really sweet if she wants to, the kind that sweeps her father off his feet. Well, what do you know, she's 6, but she's really creative, not to mention, very thoughtful. Happy Valentine's Day, everyone, though late my greeting may be! Mwah!

Happiness is Seeing Your Kids Achieve Excellence

Image
Nothing beats the happiness of a mother who walks up the stage and pins her children ribbons of excellence. Proud as I may of my children, I still want them to be enjoying life in a balanced state. There must be work and play, education and some fun. And despite their staying in the honors list, I want them to stay as humble and as low profile as possible. That is happiness for me. To God be the glory for all things HE has done! Tabebs, First Honors in Kinder 1 Biboy, Academic Honors in Grade 4 Now, what to do this summer? Hmmm... Suggestions please.

Small Surprises

Image
When we got home last night, my 5-year old daughter was very excited to show me her drawing, it's been everyday that she presents her achievements in school whether it be a perfect score in her subjects or a good smiley tattoo on the hand to mark her good job. But I noticed that after my birthday, she has become busy on drawings and even making them into cards and last night, when we arrived, she showed this to us: I was very happy. A complete family, and I could not ask for more. Knowing your daughter loves you even in her drawings is very sweet. Now, who cannot be surprised with that? It may be a small surprise but I loved it anyway. It erased my sadness from the fact that my old phone , which the hubby now uses, was silently taken from his pocket by the "laglag-barya gang" yesterday morning on his way to the office. He said he was holding on to his backpack and a guy who has an accomplice with him, dropped a coin on the tricycle and was looking for it under the seats m...

She's 5, But Still my Baby

Image
Dear Tabebs, 5 years and you are still my baby, I just want you to know that life is not a bed of roses, but when you lay down and eventually get pricked, I will always be the mother that you want me to be. You are so loved and know that Daddy and I love you very much. Happy Birthday, Anak.

Vicks Vaporub, a soothing remedy for coughs

Image
Yesterday, I got a text from the hubby saying Tabebs had fever. The teacher was able to immediately give her Paracetamol, but I was restless soon after I heard of the news. Dengue has been really rampant in this part of the country, we have statistics reaching 600 and more, and unfortunately, our baranggay, more specifically our purok's elementary school here, has had declarations of three students rushed to the hospital for dengue cases. Lagao, being the biggest of all barangays, has declared the most number of patients. I was trusting God to take care of my baby, she was restless in her sleep the night prior to that but I was not alarmed much until the text reached me. I went home immediately, and even today, I took a leave to monitor her temperature. The fever subsided, thanks to Tempra Forte (Paracetamol). But I am still concerned about the cough and the runny nose. Flu is rampant, and we better take care of ourselves. Here's one emergency thing I did to ease the coughing. ...

Our Baby Model

Image
This is my 4 year old daughter. Tabebs as she is called. She's our baby. And she's SHY! NOT! Tabebs, our baby model While we were having a photo shoot for a blog anniversary contest, we made her pose for the dad who was busy with the shutter. And look how she has displayed her poses, and she has all the faces that could melt a heart. She is just a darling. Everything is her own display of character, her own actions, no cue from me or the dad. She's done it with poise and carried herself well in front of the camera, methinks. So, do you think I have a model in the making?

She's Me, Physically

Image
What can be more fascinating than after a day's work, you close your eyes and think of what you have accomplished, count how many people you made happy and how many people made you smile. Each day, when I arrive home, I ask her what achievements she did in school, and she'd just close her mouth and say nothing. She wouldn't tell me the things that kept her busy and activities they had in school. One day, I surprised her in school while they had their lunch break and found she was wearing a medal. I asked the teacher what the medal was for, and she told me that my daughter's been the most behaved girl during the day. And funny thing is, she's been wearing the medal for days already for different reasons at all, like she was the only one who answered the teacher's questions or she was the only one who was quiet that day. These simple joys, after a long tiring day, makes my heart leap. She's me. Physically. She's dad's. Behaviorally. Well, to those who...

Will she be the next Vanessa Mae?

Image
I just had a good cleaning spree in our old house, and found out that the violin that was given us was already dust-filled. And so i had to dust off the casing and bring back the old shine. I just can't resist smiling when I checked on my files this morning and found this too, what coincidence. I guess it means the time is now for my daughter to learn the ropes of music and indulging herself into it while she still has the interest. That's hubby's hand, he's the one teaching Tabebs some violin lessons. Sssshhhh, don't ask me, I don't know how, even my fingers drumming on the table isn't worth to be called "music". So tell me, will she be the next Vanessa Mae? I hope so...
