The Widow and the Matriarch

Image
We are celebrating husband's 37th birthday this December and while prepping up for an advance  celebration, I was in the kitchen with my mother-in-law when she asked how old my husband is as she wanted to validate his age. I answered the number and then she got silent, and said, "So I'm already 30 years a widow". And that kept me silent as well. As she was talking, I could feel the pain inside her suddenly gruffy voice, she remembered that 30 years ago on the fifth day of a cold December night, her husband succumbed to cardiac arrest. And after that, her whole being was dedicated to working her life off as a solo parent trying to raise three boys, my husband the youngest of the brood. The thirty years that came after Tatay's death was kept as memories filled with challenges and grief, but there were also many times they had celebrations of a kind, one that would keep them going and going even if it meant not having a father in the family. And so she ...

My Daughter Can Draw... and I CANT

Image
That is just the most awful part, the phrase that says I can't draw. To think that my daughter did not get any training or any help from any of us regarding her drawing skills is but an amazement to us all. She can draw, very well, and she even won First Place in the Poster Making Contest of their school, and she's just 7.  I wonder where she got the talent in making use of lines and curves and she can even make one that's seen as an aerial view of a resort like the above picture for that matter. There's a playground, a pool with slides and bridges to make it more interesting. She has a mind that's amazing, really, and I believe she can do more when she grows up. But I am sure that she's taken after the father who is a computer engineer and has great and amazing creative skills as well, from computer graphics to plotting CADD in 3D.  That's why I am supporting all her needs from crayons to paints and pastels and sketch pads, it's not everyday tha...

One Crazy Weekend

Image
The kids are finally here. I have not told you this because the two weeks swiftly went, but my kids went to a short vacation in Iloilo City with their grandmother. And it was a heavy decision to make to let them enjoy vacation without us, since we could not give them the time they want for vacation. I could not leave work because as you can see, I am still earning good points to get a regular post, and the husband also has work to do, what with graduations and his day job too, so I have to ask MIL to join them. So off they went last March 13, we sent them off to Davao and they were quite enjoying every minute until last Wednesday, when MIL texted me the daughter has fever and the son vomits. I was panicky, and I could not settle down, not knowing the situation they are in. It was not until Thursday afternoon that the bad turned to worse and Tabebs was admitted to the hospital. It was not until 8pm when the son was diagnosed with amoebiasis and the daughter could be infected with the sa...

Me and Motherhood, and One Big Question

Image
In case you don't know, I am just around, I have not been elsewhere, but am having a lot of thoughts to consider. First, my migraine simply won't let me sleep and the serious migraine attacks I've had the past week seem to be terrible that I'd love to give my brain a rest from all the reading, I want to resign from work (day job) before the year ends in order for me to rest the eyes and the brain from the pressure it gets. Secondly, I am also busy with the online job which I think gives me better compensation than what I get from the office. So I am stuck with the notion of this, will I resign or not. Resigning from work means I can rest the eyes and brain, but not having the salary, however, I still earn at home and bigger too, though, I know that an online job is not that stable. I can even take care of the kids better. What do you say, of course it's pressure just thinking about it, but I am praying for God's direction, you know I have been wanting a new job s...
